Chania, Rethymno and Lake Kournas

This trip will take you to the west side of the island. It includes a visit to the cities of Rethymnon and Chania as well as the famous Kournas Lake.

To the west along the northern axis of Crete, we will first pass the Ida mountain range, which in the distance you will see the highest mountain of Crete, Psiloritis (2453 m high). Afterwards, our tour will take us to the beautiful city of Rethymno. A picturesque Cretan city, so characteristic and unique that you won't find anything like it anywhere else on the island of Crete. Typical for its small streets. We will have time to relax in the beautiful scenery of the old port of Rethymnon.

Our next stop is Chania, the capital of the prefecture of Chania, which is the second largest on the island and the sixth largest city in Greece with a population of approximately 65,000. Its Venetian walls and port, narrow streets and old buildings from the Venetian and Turkish periods are mostly intact and take you right back in time. The old port, where small fishing boats can moor, is the perfect place to enjoy a coffee and observe the life of the city. Here you can see the closed market in the shape of a cross and the market with traditional products -  StreetMarket.

Nextand the laststop at Lake Kournas, the only natural freshwater lake near Chania, for lunch. For those who want, there is an option to take a pedal boat trip around the lake, or just walk around the lake and have a swim before heading back towards Heraklion.
