Villa Kerasia
Villa Kerasia is located in the village of Vlachiana, 15 km southwest of the city of Heraklion. It lies at the southeastern foot of Mount Psiloritis, amphitheaterly situated at an altitude of 580 meters, overlooking the villages of Kerasia, Venerato and Avgeniki at a distance of about 1 km. The breathtaking natural beauty of the area is highlighted by the intense morphological contrast of the terrain and the vineyards that surround the settlement, together with the inner beauty and stunning views of the gorges at Ano Asites, Agia Irini and Venerato.
It was reconstructed in 2003-2007 from a complete ruin. The villa offers a wide range of quality services. Sunbeds, parking, a 50m2 swimming pool with a jacuzzi are available outside and an excellent traditional Cretan breakfast is included in the accommodation price, and sometimes the owner organizes a barbecue.
There are sunbeds and umbrellas on the sandy beach and a gradual entry into the sea, which is especially appreciated by families with children and older travelers.
There is also a long promenade around the hotel with taverns and cafes and a small shop about 50m from the accommodation. Other shopping options 15 minutes' walk away, as well as a famous pastry shop with excellent ice cream.
The area around Villa Kerasia is ideal for walking along the old paths leading to the nearby Byzantine churches. The intersection of the international hiking trail (E4) near the villa leads to the local climbing section (Prinos, 1200 m.a.s.l.). You can also join organized climbing groups for Psiloritis. At a short distance of about 2 km from the accommodation, there is the archaeological site of Ancient Rizinia. The city was discovered during excavations in 1906-1908 and prospered from the late Minoan period of 600 BC until the Hellenistic period of 67 BC. Rizinia's hilltop location, approximately in the center of Crete and midway between the two great Minoan cities of Knossos and Faistos, was of great strategic importance.
